Vaseline saucer

We have Pet Day at Ohaeawai School every year and one of the activities we do is to create a symmetrical design on a saucer using flower petals. You put Vaseline on the saucer first to make the flowers stick. That’s why they are called Vaseline Saucers. Here is a pic of me with mine:

3D Clock

Yesterday, for maths we had to read a step by step procedure for making a 3D clock. It was very tricky. We had to measure in centimetres to make equilateral triangles, measure the angles with a protractor to check they were 60 degrees, make a clock face and arrows and tie it all together with string. I was glad when I finished. The clock hands were the hardest part. Here is a picture of my clock.

Last night I turned into a bird

Yet another thing we did for writing this week was to imagine that we had undergone

metamorphosisWe had to pretend we had woken up one morning and discovered we had changed. It

would be like going to sleep as a caterpillar and waking up as a butterfly. We had to

write about what our new body was like and what we could do. I chose to turn into a bird.

Here is my work.

Last night I turned into a bird

Last night I turned into a bird. I think an alien ship came down and zapped me with a laser gun. I was asleep and then I felt a shock on my arm. It felt like an electric fence touched it. It was sore so I woke up in fright and pain. I opened my eyes and looked out of the window and I saw ...NOTHING! It was so weird, was I dreaming?

When I looked out of the window I turned around and found myself face to face with a big bird “Ahhhhhh!”I shrieked as the bird copied me I waved at the bird then I realized it was a mirror “silly me!”I laughed but the bird in the mirror was...ME!

I looked like a big, bad hawk WITH A SCAR ON MY FACE!!! I had wings (much longer than my old arms) and I had black and white spots on me and 2 sharp talons and a curved beak. But people just think about it, I'm a bird AND BIRDS CAN FLY! I've always wanted to fly before. I could fly to the highest tree top in New Zealand.Like Tane Mahuta “Wowww!”I said “this is going to be so cool!”and I could also glide to that's the life of a hawk bro.

“Let’s do this baby!”I shouted and I flew out of my window and glided to a big tall gum tree. How did I see? It was because the moon was shining hard tonight. When I landed I saw lots of nests and eggs and mother and father birds sitting on the eggs. “I've never been this close to birds before. Usually they just fly away and donk into windows!”I said  “Shh!”said a mother bird, “sorry”I whispered.

As I flew into my room I saw another hawk and he said “I’m sorry” and I said “sorry for what?” “i’m sorry for biting you and turning you into a hawk”he said in a gloomy voice “ohh so your the one who bit me, I thought it was a laser gun” “wait so your NOT mad at me” of course not, I’ve always wanted to fly before and it came true”I said back “so do you want to be friends now?”said the hawk “of course!” I shouted

Coding of Cicada Lifecycle

We have coded our own unplugged program of the five stages of the cicada lifecycle. We have included some obstacles too.  The goal is to be able to have someone follow our codes to navigate our lifecycle by getting from stage 1 to stage 5 and avoiding the obstacles.  Here are some examples of our coded lifecycles.

Reading Week 11 Term 1 2021 All Groups

Our teachers have been reading us the story “Charlotte’s Web’. We had to create something about the characters, setting or plot of the story. I decided to make a title page off the book.

Here is my work:

Chocolate

This writing task was about a language experience. Our teachers brought different kinds of chocolate to school and we got to eat it! We tried white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel chocolate and pink chocolate. We could write about it in any way we liked but our teachers hoped we would use lots of describing language and our senses.

Chocolate

Chocolate is so delicious. The white chocolate looks like a small block of bird poop!; it smells like milk. And the brown chocolate looks like a little baby poo and it smells like coffee.

When I bite into the scrumptious brown chocolate it melts in my mouth like a big streaming chocolate waterfall going down my throat and it melts down my fingers.

My favourite chocolate is white chocolate. It is like a white ice cube. Chocolate feels like solid milk. It is hard to break.

Easter Recount

The goal of this writing activity was to retell what we did during Easter. We had to remember to use sequencing adverbs at the beginning of our paragraphs.

                       My Easter holiday

Yay! I can't wait until we get to Aunty Bee's house. We are going to have an  egg hunt. It is going to be so FUN!

Firstly Where here finally! I opened the door and ran to the door until I saw Levi “hi Levi”I said happily I saw someone that I haven't seen before. Then I went to the grape bush. I was going to pick one but it had a wasp in it there. There were wasps everywhere so I just went inside.

Secondly I saw Levi and his friend on the deck and I thought how did they get there so fast? They were eating POPCORN!! I love popcorn (especially sweet & salty) . I grabbed a handful and I bit it. It was so delicious then I realised that it was sweet & salty.

Finally my mum and the others went to kayak while Aunty Tammy looked after us.”OK get your shoes on it's time to go Easter egg hunting now” “yay!” we all shouted I ran out the door without putting my shoes on but I didn't care so I just walked to the hill because my feet hurt. I should have put my shoes on actually but everyone was going so I finally made a decision. Quinn (my sister) and Donne and Jerako went on the quad with Aunty Tammy. Me Levi and that other boy who I finally found out his name went down to the river Levi found four I found tow and the other boy went home with his parents.
